My name is Drita Harris and I am a first generation born American in
my family. I was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1969. My mother
was Greek and my father was not. Mom raised me, and dad named
me, so I combined the two heritages to name my business. Yali is
Greek for glass and Drita is Albanian for light, in other words "glass by
light".
Over the years I moved around a little bit, spending my summers from
childhood on the shores of Rockaway Beach, New York and eventually
living in Athens, Greece for a few years with my family before moving
back to the US. I settled down in San Antonio, Texas in 1996, and it
was here that I was able to nurture my creativity.
I found that I have passion for glass and have been playing with
different mediums of glass since 2001. Currently, my favorite is warm
glass, specifically working with dichroic glass. The depth that the
layered fused glass with the dichroic colors seem to transmit color as if
it was lit when the sunshines on them. The pictures don't do them
justice. My artistic signature are the charms that I attach to the back of
each pendant instead of the traditional bail.
